Dion Advancing in a Different Direction

Liberal leader Stephane Dion is at a caucus retreat which I guess is a good place to announce a caucus retreat.

It seems Dion, who is feeling heat from MPs who actually want to have a chance at getting re-elected, is altering his Carbon Tax Plan so that it now offers subsidies to certain people.

So bottom line: a complicated plan, just got more complicated.

Mind you, it's always a Liberal reflex to throw money around when things get tough.

And if this keeps up, by the time Election Day rolls around Dion will be offering motorists special subsidies every time they fill up at the gas station.

If hes just giving the money back, why collect any at all? Obviously the tax is not "neutral".

Very true, Gerry. And the same could be said for the billions in corporate welfare being promised before an election when they controlled the purse strings. Dollars specifically earmarked to bail out fledgling plants, sustain job promises in vote rich regions or to help corporation who report billions in profits each quarter. To bad that partisan line just got blurred today.

NBT, nice try but the $80 mil to Ford is a loan, not corporate welfare.

... The Liberal reflex is to throw other people's money around.

With so many exemptions it seems to get really pointless as well as uberly confusing.

They couldn't run a simple gun registry where, you know, you get peoples names, what guns they own and write it down...

A carbon tax, right or wrong, run by the liberals would be a horrendous nightmare. The very thought of which gives me the dry heaves...

... Anonymous... how about I "loan" out your money?

Loan, grant, forgivable loan, subsidy, investment to sustain jobs, cash injection. I've heard it all and seen it in all forms...same sh&t, different corporate welfare pile. Not to mention, they all have one thing in common...it's all our money.

Come on anonymous, I'm from NB after all!

... Perhaps, this latest Liberal offering will come to be known as "Dion's Mystical Green Shell Game".
