I have long harbored suspicions that the writers behind some of the recent Star Trek movies and TV shows were pushing socialist propaganda.
In the movie First Contact for instance, Captain Picard proudly boasts that the Federation economy is not based on money!!
So how do they pay for Romulan ale?
Anyway, I bring this up because today I came across a neat site that makes a strong case that the Federation is actually a Soviet-style totalitarian state.
Beam up me Scotty!

I think Roddenberry's vision of ST was a pro-liberal hoped America. There was no need for currency since you could create what you need with a replicator. Commerce was done through bartering, Federation credits, and precious metal (gold pressed latnium). The Borg were suppose to represent communism. He was no fan of that.
His successors to the franchise, Rick Berman, did seem to take the show's politics to the far-far left.
I'll have to take your word on that site's content. It was too hard on the eyes for me to read.
