Coalition dead but victorious

Well the NDP-Liberal-Bloc Coalition is now officially dead.

Wow, that's a relief.

I mean, if that collection of big government leftists had managed to seize control of the government they would surely have gone on a reckless spending splurge, racked up massive deficits and .... oh wait a minute.

Never mind.

Why is it that you never respond to comments on your blog?

Except it would have been much, much worse from a conservative perspective. You seem to lack imagination.

While I do not believe, for a second, that Gerry Nicholls can balance the budget in this economic recession if he was Prime Minister (and as such most of his complaints in that regard are not constructive), I do find it a respectable practice to not comment on his own blog.

Well said Mr. Nicholls. Fiscal conservatives are toast! By the way, you don't have to respond...honest, my feelings won't be hurt if you're too busy getting on with your life.

Anonymous 2: If anyone who isn't disappointed with this budget lacks imagination you seem to have an abundance of it. Any coalition would have been subject to public opinion. At worst the deficit would have been bigger, there wouldn't have been tax cuts, and fiscal conservatism would still have a voice in Canada.

As it is, the tax cuts are temporary *at best* with all the new spending, the deficit is huge and probably underestimated and fiscal conservatism has lost the credibility it gained from having some sort of champion in the political realm, which is what puts the country back more than any of the rest of it.

Could it be worse? Yeah, but it could --always-- be worse and using that as your benchmark for whether or not to support Harper's actions as a conservative is a sign of desperate partisan hackery at this point.

I am going to break with tradition and respond to a comment. Janet and Powell, you guys are brilliant!

It's not hard to balance a budget under any economic circumstances. You simply spend less than you bring in.

There are too many brain dead 'conservatives'(re:socialists) in this country who can't do basic math.
