Dion in Denial

According to Stephane Dion the Liberal election loss was everybody's fault except his.

Especially to blame says Dion was the Conservative Party which had the audacity to actually run an effective attack ad campaign.

Shame on them!

Oh and Dion knows losing the election wasn't his fault because all his friends told him he ran a good campaign.

Man, this guy is living in denial.

If I am Liberal I would want to move up the Liberal leadership convention to next week.

It is amazing how the Liberals cannot see how hypocritical they are.

We all remember the vicious and baseless attack ads aimed at the Conservatives in the past elections. Remember, how can we forget? 'soldiers on the streets of Canadian cities , with guns, on our streets we are not making this up.'

Then they have a leader who screams 'Liar!' as a way of showing what a cerebral and classy guy he is.

They claim the MSM were biased against them. Hilarious!the blatantly liberal-supporting media is to blame for their failure. They failed despite the spin and liberal slant from the media. Dion pleads for the future, 'for children and grandchildren' and ending poverty and looking after the environment. What did the Liberals ever do about those problems when they were in power? In fact, what did the Liberals do about anything when they were in power except tax us all to death to fund their personal power-grabbing schemes and filling brown paper bags with cash for their equally corrupt friends, Some of us were taxed while living on very small incomes, poverty level. Claw backs while they got rich. The Liberals are shameless hypocrites.

With all of the discussion of Dion's personal debts (up to $6XX,XXX) no wonder he wants to stay on as Leader of the Opposition. He and his family need to continue to live in subsidized housing - Stornoway. It's interesting that media/voters consider the Opposition as "losers". In fact in our Parliamentary system, a strong Opposition Party should be an important role, and bring out the best in Parliament...adding perspective, confirming when they believe (from their constituents) that the Government in on the right path (no pun intended), and challenging Government when they really believe there's a better way (based on feedback from constituents). If that were the way Parliament was allowed to work (not winners vs. losers) then voter apathy may disappear?? Respect for democracy and our Parliamentary system?

no, no maud web you've got it all wrong. Dion sure didn't sound like a man down to me during his speech. Actually the exact opposite.

And, it's not called "kicking a man" it's called "kicking ass"(now where have I heard that before?)

For years the Liberals blew the few braincells they all had between them in framing first Manning, then Day, and finally Harper as Bible thumping, red necked, rightwing extremist, western hicks. These guys were do away with woman's rights, put guns under every pillow, ban abortions, and Americanize Canada...and then some.

For all of that endless crap, I never once heard one of them whine the way Dion did today.

It's a classic case of being quite ready and willing to dish out, but whimpering like a bunch of little babies when it's them on the receiving end.

I'm reminded of Harper's response following one of Martin's feigned quivering bottom lip routines, in which he said, with all due disdain, "Well, at least I can take a punch."

Had Harper ever dared complain in the same manner has did Dion today, the MSM and Liberals would have crucified him relentlessly and mercilessly.

Most the commentary today, on the other hand, can be summed up as "Awwwww! Those nasty Conservatives!"

Good grief!

You won this battle -- hopefully temporarily.
GET OVER YOURSELVES. Were you ALL born nasty, or just become that way when you joined the Con cult?

ah yes maud web - "born nasty" now is it?

After "small-minded little con" what can we expect?

Certainly not anything intelligent, right?

Nope, we're expecting a tad too much.

May I suggest maud web that maybe you consider a red sweater to smooth our those rough edges?

Gerry's right - admit it?

"born Nasty" of course how dare we critize our "betters" some of us have worked and, gone through all the "west wants in" to be told by a M P no less that "Alberta can blow him" "guns in our streets" "Bush" a little dweeb of a man who yells Liar at our duly elected HM PM every time he speaks. A cabinet Minister Elinor Caplan calling us "holocaust deniers and prominent Bigots" on National Television while Jean Poutine chortled beside her. I could go on , but let me leave you with this, WE WON! In spite of the lies, the bogus debate, the endless smear tactics, so suck it up, shut up, Steffi and "green Shift" are History, BWAHAAAA. There I feel much better.Nuckledraggers rule Lieberanos drool. LOL

To maud web,

after reading this blog I can not see how the blog author is kicking Stephane at all. Did Stephane blame the Conservatives for the Liberal defeat or not? Did Stephane say he ran a good campaign or not? The facts are not in question, the wisdom of Stephane's words are.

If you think Stephane's words are legitimate, can you use something better than kindergarten type insults to make your point?

Denial and then some. This is the latest Liberal fundraising email sent out under Dion's name:

" Dear Liberal Friend,

You may already know that earlier today I announced that I will step down as leader of the Liberal Party of Canada. Over the next several months, the party will conduct a leadership race to determine my successor.

Moving forward, I have one overarching goal: the next leader must not be subjected to the same Conservative Party character assassination that I faced. To be successful, I need your help.

Harper’s Conservatives have enjoyed an enormous financial lead since the fundraising rules were changed, and from the moment I was elected leader, they poured millions of dollars into unprecedented attack ad campaigns. The Liberal Party lacked the resources to respond, and by the time the election was called, a false image of me was cemented in the minds of too many voters.

That can never be permitted to happen again. Between now and when the next leader is elected, you and I must ensure the Liberal Party has the financial resources to counter Conservative attacks. Every single time.

So I’m asking you to be generous now, not for me, but for the man or woman who will succeed me and lead our Liberal Party into the next election – an election we simply must win. And while a one-time donation today will help, for long-term strength and stability, I would like you to consider making a monthly contribution of $10, $15, $25 or more.

We did not win this election, but our vision of a richer, fairer, greener country lives on. Please help now to ensure that the next leader of the Liberal Party can turn that vision into Canada’s reality.

Thank you.

Stéphane Dion
Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada

It is not only Dion who is in denial , many Liberal voters are also in denial.

Yesterday I was listening to Rex Murphy , and caller after caller (mostly women) were Liberals , whining about Harper , Harper , Harper and how Harper must listen to the Liberals because he did not get a majority (even though the percent of popular vote was a bit more than Chretien's majority) ... but I digress.

I was about to turn it off when a gentleman from Winnipeg called in and pointed out that it Canadians voted for the Conservatives , and it is opposition who must respect the will of Canadians , not the other way round.

Even though they lost , Liberal supporters feel the are entitled to foist their agenda on Canadians regardless of the vote.

... talk about denial !

Dion has also made it incredibly easy for the CPC to do what it wants over the next several months as there is no way the Liberals will want to go into another election under this guy.

The press seems to be missing that notion.

Err, if I am in a race and I lose then it is because the others beat me. If I lose in a fair competition then it is sour grapes to whine about losing or the efforts of my opponents. What we are witnessing here is the 'entitlement mentality' of the left and their wholesale belief that the LPC is 'Canada's natural governing political party.' But something happened on the way to the polls: the public did not agree with these people or their friends in the media. (real conservative)

He says he wants to stay on to ensure a "smooth and efficient" transition for the next leader. Plus, he wants to make sure that the next Liberal leader doesn't become subject to attacks from the conservatives like he did.

Just me, but wouldn't you want someone who has success with the above? That certainly isn't the unsure and unsmooth Dion who had little to no answer to attack ads.
