Tory Free Fall

The Conservatives need a little shock therapy to stop their staggering free fall in the polls.

What should they do?

They should raise the awful spectre of a Liberal-NDP minority government.

If that doesn't scare Canadian voters, nothing will.

excellent strategy Gerry, fighting back is always a good idea in a contest where the opposition, which claimed in the beginning not to get down and dirty exhibits a continued double standard.

Might as well embrace it. Vote NDP and let the country destroy itself.

The faster it happens, the faster we can rebuid for my kids.

Canadians are indeed stupid.

If Canadians elect anything but a Harper majourity, they will have proven that they are not worthy of this country. Could the oppostion be any weaker or any more foolish or communistic?

I posted exactly this scenario a few days back, and only managed a couple of "it'll never happen" shrugs.

I think it is a very, very real possibility.

Although I just saw on Bourque that the CPC has jumped up significantly, 10%, in latest poll in New Brunswick, now well ahead of the Libs in that province.

Yes, voters should fear a Layton/Dion coalition government.

You'll have one nut who wants to tax the heck out of everything, and someone who doesn't understand the economy, try and emulate Tommy Douglas.

I'm scared for our future.

One has to wonder about the "accuracy" of the earlier polls. Especially those done by the "loving MSM" which had Conservatives within reach of a majority ... were they sampled in such a way as to produce a favourable result for the Conservatives in order to spook voters from giving Harper a majority ?

If so , as Gerry says the spectacle of a Liberal-NDP tax and spend frenzy would be utterly devastating for all Canada !

... shades of Bob Rae only on a much grander scale !ymntgs

I'm a canadian currently living abroad... If things go well and the liberal/NDP get it I will be able to buy a house in the Toronto area for €7.50

A Liberal/NDP minority only scares the people in the west. In the eastern part of Canada the socialist credo of tax and spend is firmly rooted in the voters psyche...especially when the taxing applies to someone else like Alberta and Saskatchewan.
All the eastern media pundits missed the message being sent when Ed Stelmach was elected with such an overwhelming majority. Stelmach was not, and is not, a really popular premier but he did represent the middle goround between his two major opponents. One of these contenders was as close as you can get to being a western separatist without actually saying so. The other was a Red Tory who would have turned the keys to the house over to eastern interests in a policy of appeasement. Albertans are playing a wait and see game. They won't stand for being raped again to satisfy the demands of Ontario and Quebec. A Liberal/NDP coalition would make an immediate grab for Alberta's resource income, and that would be the final straw. The separatists in the provincial Conservatives would split and join with many Alberta federal ministers who really see the Conservative government in Ottawa as a last shot at making confederation work. The joining of these forces would definitely see Alberta, and perhaps Saskatchewan, taking a hike. I don't think the political brain trust in the east has any idea of just how close to the surface this boiling cauldron of resentment lies.
Under such a coalition I believe Quebec separatists would get a lesson in how it is really done.

WRONG ... it terrifies many Ontario voters who have even half a brain.
