Curing American Health Care

One book on my "Must Read" list, is The Cure: How Captialism Can Save American Health Care.

The title alone makes it worth reading, but the real appeal is the author: Dr. David Gratzer.

Dr. Grazter is one of Canada's most articulate and intelligent critics of the socialist health care model and a man whom I greatly respect.

It will be interesting to see his comments on the American health care system.

I don't support the Canadian system which has a near government monopoly, but neither do I support a private system. The Solution in the United States is to introduce universal health care like Canada, but like Europe and unlike Canada, allow it to co-exist with a separate parallel private system. The hybrid systems work better than either a purely public or purely private.

Gerry,

I've always liked Gratzer, ever since Code Blue. That book got me interested in health care policy in general, eventually writing my thesis on it.

I'm somewhat dissapointed that his MSA idea has never cracked its way into Canada's political discourse. Any theories as to why? Most people haven't even heard of them.

No politician seems ready to really debate this issue and to offer up real alternatives to the government monopoly.
