Just Some Unrelated Stuff

Here's are some unrelated but interesting items for a lazy summer evening.

* Pierre Lemieux has an excellent column looking at cultural subsidies. Key quote: “Cultural subsidies are not much different than if each subsidized artist was given a revolver and told to collect the money himself.”

* Grassroots opposition to the Liberal Carbon Tax is growing as evidenced by this cool new site.

* Read the sad tale of Babe Dahlgren, a Major Leaguer from the 1930s and 40s whose career was ruined due to rumours that the used a non-performance-enhancing drug.

You know very well that "cool new" site is operated by a Conservative Party operative. Why on earth would you refer to that as "grassroots"?

... Mr. Lemieux is on the right track in eliminating all cultural subsidies.
... Cultural subsidies are merely another policy of the principle of economic collectivism- the role of the state forcing money from those who earned it, and giving it to others.
... The true solution is limit the role of the state to protecting the individual's right to their earnings... building a nation of true liberty.

Grassroots.

Of or involving the common people as constituting a fundamental politico-economic group; "a grassroots movement for nuclear disarmament".

Or, in this case,
Of or involving the political functionaries of a party furthering a political agenda by pretending to constitute a fundamental politico-economic group; "a grassroots movement for opposition disarmament".

Gerry, you have to read artists' reaction to cuts to cultural subsidies.

==Monumental smear of the Conservative Government of Canada==
