I have a column in today's Calgary Herald mourning the fact that Premier Ed Stelmach may soon impose an election gag law on Alberta.
When it comes to election speech, Alberta has always been one of the freest jurisdictions in Canada.
I'd hate to see that change.
I just got back from Virginia a few weeks ago. A higlight of the trip was a visit to Monticello. I never felt such pangs of "patriotism envy" for Americans' freedom of speech.
ReplyDeleteWhen I speak with my U.S. friends about our archane laws on human rights and LACK of private property rights they are shocked to their core. What we Canadians must live with on a daily basis is so alien to their being they truly cannot comprehend how we can stand it. I tell them some of us can't.
