Remembering Stephen

It looks like Prime Minister Stephen Harper is prepared to betray conservatives once again.

Not content with Liberal-lite fiscal polices, the Conservative government is now talking about re-opening constitutional talks to "give more meaning" to the recognition of Quebecois as a nation.

Sigh.

I remember a time when Stephen Harper believed all Canadians should be treated equally no matter which province they lived in.

I remember a time when Stephen Harper believed it was wrong to bestow special status upon Quebec.

I remember a time when Stephen Harper believed it was wrong to pander to Quebec nationalist sentiment.

And I remember a time when conservatives spoke out against this type of cynical tribal politics.

I wonder if they will now?

I wonder if the Globe got the story all wrong and added a bit to the Minister's words.

  2. You should be careful about taking a Globe and Mail headline as fact. No where in their article do they actually quote one single solitary Conservative (Blackburn included) as saying the constitution will be reopened.

Gerry - I agree with you that all provinces should be treated equally. Isn't that why Quebec shgould finally be covered under the same constitution as the rest of the provinces. Only THENB would all provinces be equal. As it stands right now Quebec is the outsider because they did not sign the constitution.

  4. Let's face it, they're taking the easy route to a majority. Which is why I don't even believe Flanagan's incremental BS anymore.

Giving Quebec more powers or more of anything is high treason!

  8. Blackburn was apparently freelancing.

Now let's get back to laughing at Dion.

Harper is looking a bit like Brian Mulroney Jr. again.

  10. ... "Tribal politics" I love this phrase.
... It perfectly expresses social and economic collectivism, and clearly defines the truly progressive path forward as one towards the recognition and respect for individuality and liberty.
