Communication follies

Besides lacking a consistent ideological vision, the biggest problem with the Harper government is the general amateurishness of its communication efforts.

I have written about the PMO's communication mistakes in the past.

But this one is unbelievable.

Soudas should be fired - NOW!

I don't quite understand how this happened. What was his source?

Apparently, Soudas received an email with the info; Soudas never bothered to verify it.

Man, I can tell you, knowing Harper and his temper as I do, it sucks to be that guy right now.

Tonda MacCharles is reporting that Harper has apologized:

Harper quickly went before a camera after the gaffe become clear, and his press secretary took responsibility for it, and made a brief statement.

"I learned shortly after the press conference this was not a quotation of Mr. Ignatieff," said Harper before departing L'Aquila.

"I regret the error and I apologize to Mr. Ignatieff for this error."

I just received a PIN froms someone who witnessed Harper kicking a folding chair over in a fairly crowded room.

It's alright, the seats on the plane on the flight home are all securely fastened. Hopefully there is a doctor on board to treat his foot though ... Seriously, though, is there anyone who sympathises with Soudas? You know, what goes around, comes around ...

it is kinda within the Iffy mind set though to come out with this type of not fully thought out reasoning... the quote is probably more from one of Iffy's advisors... I'd be more interested in getting to the source and who actually said it then crusifying a staffer who ignored due diligence to varify a lead like this in advance... I'd then terminate the staffer to set the example of what happens when you don't do your job to varify a quote like this...that's more in line with the media @ CBC and in the general MSM... or the HRC

But then, I'm not in the media or on the hill...

Email was a transcript of an interview Gordon Smith did for CTV a couple of days ago. Iggy speaks at start, then Smith takes over and gives quote. Details back at my place.

You're absolutely right. I feel bad for Soudas, but he deserves to be hauled to the woodshed for his screw up.

No, no. Harper should use his brain rather than his venom. He did not read a text handed to him by Soudas. Does Harper obey his advisors - or is he capable of judgment?

Sorry - Harper wears this one. You do NOT make domestic partisan shots at an International Summit, period.

How long can Harper get away with blaming everyone else for his problems?

He suspended Ryan Sparrow (who now has a promotion)(soldier, Liberal, dad) stating that it is he (Harper) who sets the tone.

These guys eat, sleep and live for partisan shots - cheezy, pathetic.

Have people forgotten Harper accusing Dion, Layton and Duceppe of meeting in a room (to discuss the coalition) without any Canadian flags when there were actually two there? Did he ever apoplogise for that mistake?
