Libel Case Memories

All this talk about Prime Minister Harper suing the Liberals over their "Cadscam" allegations reminds me of my own little legal tussle a few years ago with Liberal MP Scott Brison.

Back then, when he was a cabinet minister, Brison publicly smeared an organization I used to work for.

So I went on the attack and threatened to sue the guy for libel unless he apologized. I had Brison dead to rights on this, and I must say I enjoyed the whole process immensely.

Anyway, to make a short story shorter, Brison ended up making a grovelling apology.

It will be interesting to see if Harper is as successful.

I look at the vehemence coming out of the Liberal benches in the past two days - especially Dion's facial expressions and the tone of his voice - and I think this has become his line in the sand.

All the backing and filling, the posturing and backing down of the past year and a bit have brought him to the point where he has decided he will press on regardless and show everyone he can stay the course.

As a result, the play here is actually directed toward his own party (which I do believe he is now prepared to destroy rather than submit to).

Now, of course, you likely wouldn't object if someone smeared that organization you used to work for!!

This story doesn't have the legs to carry into a campaign, and it's still unclear who's gonna come out on top in this scandal. Dion will continue to back down.

"They're backing down, and loving it."

"look at the vehemence coming out of the Liberal benches in the past two days"

Could it be because Liberal spinmeister Kinsella actually predicts that Conservative support is much higher than polls show????

from WK blog...

"To get specific, here in Ottawa, I think it means Harper is ahead by more than a lot of hacks and flaks realize"

YIKES!! I have believed this for a while now, but when die hard Liberals start to express it....well - Look for the screaming to become louder and louder and louder.....

Remember Gerry!

Harpo also threatened the Conservative Premiers of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador with legal action when they accused him of unilaterally altering the Atlantic Accord.

Remember the outcome?

It was Mr. Harper who ended up doing the old back peddle and side deal shuffle....

Bluff?

You only get so many of those in a political career...
